How to Start a Medical Billing Business

Course Description:

This course is designed for the person wanting to start a home based Medical Billing Business. Students attending this program will learn every facet of starting and running your own business - beginning with your trade name, setting up bank account, how to select an accountant, attorney, etc. You will learn Pc Literacy and the fundamentals of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power point). You will learn how to integrate this package in to daily business operations. Students will also learn how to put together both a Marketing and Business Plan. You will then follow-up with Quick books, which will help you in keeping track of your business. You will then go on to create your business cards, brochures, flyers, etc. to market your business. Students taking this course must have previously attended the Medical Billing/Coding and Medical Terminology or equivalent training programs, or must have previous work experience with Medical Billing and Coding.

Week 1
Pc Literacy - students learn the fundamentals of using a personal computer, fundamentals of word, excel, power point and access.

Week 2
Guide to Health Insurance - students will learn the fundamentals of the health insurance business. 
The basics: policies, premiums, benefits, claims
The various types of health insurance
COBRA
Coordination of Benefits
Medicare, Medicaid
Managed care

Week 3
How to Start a Medical Billing/Coding Business - students will learn all faucets of setting up and running a medical billing business at home. The hardware and software requirements needed, clearing house setup for processing claims, students will learn how to use the program medical and dental billing cost analysis program to analyze a doctors current billing.

Medical Coding and Fees - students will learn the evolution and use of medical coding

How to Process Claims - students will learn the fundamentals of processing claims

The Business Plan - students will actually complete their business plan using a popular business plan writing software program. The Marketing Plan - students will develop a marketing plan for their medical billing/coding business
